GFE Global’s crop cultivation is centered on the development of Jatropha and other Bio-diesel feedstock crops. In developing nations, often the farming communities are made up of several small farms and co-ops.
In order for these small farms and co-ops to adopt a successful Jatropha plantation and still maintain a constant stream of income it is necessary to utilize inter-cropping methods and other product development while Jatropha crops mature into full production over a three to five year time frame. |
|
We are currently proving the successful inter-cropping of several different food crops and other products into our Jatropha farms to achieve an economic model that can be adopted by the small and large farming communities alike.
Among the many crops currently being proven as successful inter-crops, GFE Global is highlighting Watermelon, Habanera Peppers, Cayenne Peppers, Papaya, Corn and CAS. Each environment and climate needs to be carefully evaluated prior to inter-crop selection. It is imperative that all conditions, including soil, irrigation, weather, labor, social and political structure, regulations and marketplace are carefully assessed in order to develop a successful farm plan. Chili Peppers (Capsicum) is one of the most varied and widely used foods in the world. Papaya have become one of the many tropical fruits gaining popularity recently. The US is the largest importers of Papaya. CAS (P. friedrichsthalianum) is known as the Costa Rican Guava. It naturally grows from Central America to Colombia. Watermelon is believed to have originated in southern Africa, where it is found growing wild. |
